Not a bad night in the van tucked in a little car park behind Fitou church considering it was blowing a gale!!! The wind seemed to drop a little at 7 so after a quick breakfast we headed to La Franqui speed spot to met up with Pete :) On way he texted to say could we stop to get him some bread and that he was too scared to get out of his van as the wind was so’oooooooooooooooooooooo strong :( It had calmed a bit by the time we arrived and after sorting out my gt-31 gps which has been playing up rigged my 5.2 in winds gusting to 35 kts !!! but by the time I had finished rigging the wind was gusting over 60 kts and a constant 50 :( and water as being blown out of the Etang by the railway line and heading for us across the beach !!! So we packed up quick and decided it would be safer go get off the beach!!! We stopped off at the kite spot at La Palme and watched some loony kiter go out with a 3m kite – I haven’t seen a kite that small before!!!! With the wind so bad we thought we were going to lose the roof off our campervan we headed to La Franqui square and had a nice quiet lunch sheltered from the wind and watched several windsurfers go out with 4m sails on wave boards. Pete arrived and said he had found a place to park on the La Palme Etang and was going to give it a try and against my better judgement decided to give it a try, as the last time I sailed in an Etang it was horrendous :) and this time it was no better !!! I rigged my smallest sail the 5.2 on the falcon 90 with a small 23 fin because of the shallow water and weed. You had to walk out a hundred metre’s or so to get water deep enough and I set off toward the Naturist campsite where I found the wind which hit you like a brick wall !!!!! it was all but unsailable with the kit I had and even on smaller kit would have been no fun at all so managed to sail/walk back and left Pete to it and packed up put the gear in the van and headed to our favourite sheltered spot by the little Etang just past Peyriac-de-Mer where I could tie my gear on the roof, have a shower with our portable bag shower hung from a tree ,read and go for a nice walk after the thunder and lightning and rainbows had gone and around the Etangs and duck boards, through Peyriac watching the flamingos bunching together against the wind before taking off the find a quiet spot for the night :) the cloud cleared a little and we could see the sun set behind the mountains so not a complete disaster of a day !!!!
I will have to think carefully about coming all the way to sail as this is the second holiday running when the winds have exceeded 50 kts - I know I want to get a 40 average but this is just too much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fingers crossed for less wind tomorrow???
